There’s something about these nights at Spektrum that feels so warm and special.
People reconnecting, new faces finding their place, the steady pulse of melodic house brought by DJ Cut Corners, and 52 people hunched over boards with pints in hand — this is what Fuzzsjakk is about.

This was our biggest tournament of 2026 and the sixth-largest tournament we’ve ever hosted since start in 2022 (excluding CHESSRAVE events). Host Ovar Bremnes stepped in last minute for Ingrid and brought infectious energy from the first pairings to the final handshake. The Stjørdaling delivered.

By the numbers:

  • 52 participants — a 2026 record
  • 13 first-timers
  • 20 students
  • 11 players from Ila Sjakklubb — the largest club delegation of the night
  • Format: 8 rounds Swiss, 5+2 blitz

FM Gunnar Lund played a flawless tournament: eight games, eight wins, zero drama. His third FUZZSJAKK title in five appearances. In the ceremonial 3D chess finale against runner-up Fredrik Lunde, he sealed it in style.

With FM Gunnar Lund taking the LEGEND class (2200–2999), the Expert title went to Jesper Sira (1723).

Jesper (1723) finished 3rd overall with 6/8, and the BEST EXPERT, adding another strong performance to his growing record at Fuzzsjakk. After claiming his first FUZZ BLITZ LOUNGE title earlier this year, he continues to show consistency at the top level.

Fredrik Lunde took second place with 7/8, losing only to the tournament winner. This was his 13th FUZZSJAKK tournament, and with a rating jump from 1593 to 1647, he now graduates to the Expert class. His fourth CHALLENGER title — and his last as a CHALLENGER.

With a rating of 800, Leonard Frost finished 4th out of 52 and won as the best BEGINNER, scoring 6/8 — losing only to the top two.

Mona Genc represented Ila Sjakklubb and took home the best female player prize for the second time. She was one of two women in the field alongside Fredrikke Wedel, and she finished with 3 points in a tough draw.

TOP 5 HIGHLIGHTS

1. The Reissmann Duel — Father vs. Son

Nico Reissmann (1143) played his second FUZZSJAKK tournament. This time, he brought his 6-year-old son Daniel Reissmann (1200). They met in round 2.

Daniel won.

The 6-year-old beat his father on the board, then beat him in the final standings — 5 points to 4.5. Daniel ended 11th, while Nico ended 22th.

Daniel went home with a brand-new chess clock as the tournament’s best player under 10 years. Daniel went home with a story he’ll be telling for decades. Congratulations to Daniel!

2. Iver Flem (702) — The Biggest Rating Jump

Iver Flem came in rated 702. He left rated 788 — an 86-point jump, the biggest of the tournament.

The student beat Leonard Frost and pulled off the upset of the night against Magnus Bru, a player rated 622 points above him. He finished 9th overall with 5/8. This was only his third FUZZSJAKK appearance, with his debut at Sjakkrave 2026.

Iver didn’t just have a good night. He announced himself.

3. Fredrik Lunde (1593) — The Graduation

You don’t win the Challenger class four times by accident. Fredrik’s 7/8 wasn’t just good — it was a statement. He beat Jesper Sira, one of the pre-tournament favorites. He beat Magnus Bru. He held his nerve in tight positions when lesser players would crack.

Now he’s rated 1647 and enters the Expert class. The climb is real, and Friday night was the proof.

4. Leonard Frost (800) — The Comeback

From 39th place eleven months ago to 4th place tonight. From anonymous first-timer to Beginner class champion. Leonard’s tournament was the kind of story that makes FUZZSJAKK worth running. We’ll be watching where he goes next.

5. Stefan Kvinnesland (861) — Steady Under Pressure

Stefan Kvinnesland lost Round 1 — then bounced back with six wins in his next seven games.

He beat strong opponents like Alistair Sunde and Amund Grønli, finishing with 6 points and 8th place out of 52.

Rated 861, he outperformed players far above his level — and was the best performer among 11 players from Ila Sjakklubb.

Mental toughness pays.
