— BOILER CHESS —

After several months of planning the CHESSRAVE at Trondheim Spektrum, it was nothing short of magical to finally see it come to life inside Trondheim Spektrum.

BOILER BEGINNERBLITZ

- Trondheim Spektrum -

This edition of CHESSRAVE was inspired by Boiler Room and featured two different tournaments:

  1. BOILER SUPERBLITZ — Open tournament for players of all levels.

  2. BOILER BEGINNERBLITZ — A dedicated bracket for players rated under 1000.

70 players joined the BOILER BEGINNERBLITZ, making it the largest Beginner Blitz Tournament in FUZZSJAKK history — 30 players more than the second largest Beginner Tournament at CHESSRAVE 2024 at HAVET last year.

While the Superblitz brought the heavy hitters, the BOILER BEGINNERBLITZ became a breakout success of its own — with 76 players stepping into the arena. Remarkably, 79% were first-time FUZZSJAKK participants, marking a huge wave of new faces and fresh energy in the community.

Maxime Birkeland, a student and first-time FUZZSJAKK player, delivered an incredible performance and won the tournament with 6.5/7 points, only drawing against the familiar FUZZSJAKK face Kristian Mikkelsen.

On the women’s side, Marte Rasmussen made a strong statement, finishing 11th out of 77 with 5/7 points — the best female result in the Tournament, based on the tie breaks. Another milestone came from Mailin Solheim, who started playing chess actively just a few months ago. She’s already climbed from Rising Star to Improver class and scored a fantastic 5/7 points — securing the Best Improver prize out of 26 participants in her class.

In the Rising Star (0–299) category, Solveig Marie Karlsen delivered a brilliant performance. With a rating of 222, she secured 1st place in her category and finished 36th out of 76 players overall — a huge achievement that shows how fast new players can grow and shine on the FUZZSJAKK stage.

And here’s what makes it extra special: three of the top prize categories in the Beginnerblitz were won by women — Best Female Player, Best Improver, and Best Rising Star.

The top podium spots were:
🥇Tournament Winner (0–999)Maxime Birkeland (781)
🥈 Best Improver (300–599)Mailin Solheim (505)
🥉 Best Rising Star (0–299) — Solveig Marie Karlsen (222)
🏅 Best Female PlayerMarte Rasmussen (900)

Biggest Rating Jumps:

  1. Dmytro Voropaiev — +152 (from 458 ➝ 610)

  2. Maxime Birkeland — +131 (from 650 ➝ 781)

  3. Sigrid Motroen Øhlen — +91 (from 375 ➝ 431)

These jumps reflect what FUZZSJAKK is all about — players improving fast, gaining confidence, and leveling up through real competition in a supportive environment.

The tournament was played in a 7+2 time format and was led by Mikael Gundersen, a FUZZSJAKK veteran who has now gone from being the most frequent participant (27 tournaments!) to tournament director.

With the FUZZHORSE standing guard on the sidelines and the players fully locked in, the event ran through all 7 rounds in good spirits. A bit of chaos, a lot of heart — and a whole lot of new talent on the rise.

BEGINNERBLITZ WiNNER:

MAXIME BIRKELAND (6.5 out of 7 points)

Making his 𝗙𝗨𝗭𝗭𝗦𝗝𝗔𝗞𝗞 debut at 𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, Maxime Birkeland made a strong debut performance — taking 1st place in the Boiler Beginnerblitz with an impressive 6/7 points.

The only game where he dropped points was a draw against Kristian Mikkelsen — winner of the previous FUZZ Blitz Lounge Beginner Class and a consistent top finisher in the community.

BEST WOMAN PARTICIPANT:

MARTE RASMUSSEN (5 out of 7 points)

Competing in a record-breaking Boiler Beginnerblitz with 77 participants, Marte Rasmussen delivered an outstanding performance — scoring 5/7 points and finishing 7th overall with a rating of 914.

Her calm and precise play earned her the title of Best Female Player, standing out among nine female competitors in the field.

This was Marte’s first official FUZZSJAKK appearance, and she instantly made her mark — showing focus, composure, and confidence throughout the tournament.
